Step 4

The original planks are pulled out and used as patterns for the new mahogany planks. They are cut to size and dry-fitted to ensure a good fit using locator fasteners. Frame locations are then marked. For Centurys, the batten lines are also drawn for proper fastener placement. The photo on right shows how the compound curves and bends near the bow result in some creativeness to prevent cracking. On some occasions steaming is required to get the proper bend.
